This season on The Biggest Loser, the contestants are former athletes from a high school cheerleader to an NFL quarterback. In order to lose weight they are learning new, healthy lifestyle habits. Here are a few of those rules that apply strongly to current, healthy athletes:

#1: Drink a large glass of water before every meal. Hydrating your body is important to keeping your muscles flexible and functioning optimally.

#2: Don’t drink your calories. Alcohol, pop, and sugar juices are not helpful towards nutritional needs. Water is always a good alternative.

#3: Eat protein at every meal. Adding nuts or a yogurt to a meal or during snack time help build muscles and start your day on the right foot.

#4: Eat a real breakfast. Breakfast is a great time to eat protein and help with general alertness throughout the day.

#5 Sleep right. The body needs time to reset your metabolism and recover from a hard workout.
