As you may have heard, a major internet vulnerability known as “Heartbleed” was discovered earlier this week. It affected the encryption technology known as SSL that’s used on CaptainU and widely across the web. It’s represented by the lock you see in the address bar in your browser when you’re on a page that’s encrypted.
Our development team immediately fixed the problem and we have no evidence of a breach.
Still, the encryption technology we all trusted to keep our information secure across the web was vulnerable. Here’s what we recommend: change your CaptainU password and change all of your high value passwords — email, banking, etc. This is also a good time to call out the importance of password security across the web. We recommend using a tool like 1Password, which allows you to easily have very complex, different passwords on all of the websites you use.
No doubt, there will be more discussion about this in the coming weeks on technology blogs and in the mainstream news. Please feel free to contact us if you have questions.
All the best,
